The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger About Sizing Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying all users about the change.
Social Media Reaction
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
It has advised users to review their products and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Modifications
Earlier, the sizing featured one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she stated.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, from Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: last year, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
